Intertwined

November 02 - January 05,2024

From Artspace Wimberley:

"projectART ARTSPACE is excited to present Intertwined, a group exhibition of regional artists that use fibers to create striking and thought-provoking works.  From intricate weavings and large-scale sculptures to experimental garments and conceptual works,  Intertwined invites visitors to explore the rich history and limitless possibilities of fiber art.

Curated by Jamie Pettit, projectART Board member, and Jules Buck Jones, ARTSPACE’s head curator, Intertwined will feature works by artists Barbara Attwell, Heather Carter, Sam Elkins, Michael Anthony Garcia, Nam Joti, Angelica Martinez, Pearly Rihn, Kathy Utts and Jade Walker.  In conjunction with the exhibition, ARTSPACE will host artist talks and workshops related to the themes of the work on view.

Jamie Pettit reflects on the significance of fiber art, saying, "I was interested in the conversation about how fibers are everywhere in our lives and history, yet they are often overlooked or deemed in the art world more as a craft instead of fine art. I argue they are both - present in our surroundings, such as our clothing and homes, and as objects of art placed on shelves or hanging on walls. I especially loved finding artists pushing the idea of what fiber art can be, using vibrant colors and playful themes to grab your attention."

Jules Buck Jones adds, "It’s fun to curate shows around specific materials or processes. In this show, we looked for various artists who use fiber to make their work. This includes felting, variations on weaving, stitching, quilting, and more."

Intertwined will be open to the public on Saturday, November 2, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, followed by an opening reception from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM that evening. Join us for an evening of art, conversation, and a chance to meet some of the featured artists."
