From Pencil on Paper Gallery: "Negative Space gives voice to space — its constraints and its limitations. The title plays with the double entendre of its artistic definition describing the open areas surrounding or between subjects in a work of art and the popular use as the lack of personal space. Elyse Hradecky is an artist living and working in Manhattan, New York. Her training based in classical techniques has led her to create work based in tradition that pulls on contemporary subjects. An avid lover of the figure, most of her figurative work explores the relationship between the subject and the viewer. Her still life paintings show the beauty of overlooked items. She earned her MFA in sculpture with honors and a concentration in anatomy. Her work has been shown at Dacia Gallery in New York City, The New York Academy of Art in New York City, The Edward Hopper House Museum in Nyack, Neoteric Fine Art in Amagansett, Union Arts Center in Sparkhill, Frontrunner Gallery in New York, and Wayfarers Gallery in Brooklyn. She has been awarded a Terra Foundation residency in Giverny France and the Distinguished Artist Scholarship and Full Fellowship, Art Students League Residency at Vyt."
