"Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking is delighted to present “Everyone” an exhibition of large monoprints and etchings created by Connie Arismendi during her residency at Flatbed during 2021-2022.
Arismendi’s process involved experimentation and openness to the extemporaneous processes of monoprinting that centered on words that could carry multiple meanings. Arismendi states, "Words are powerful and malleable. I began exploring this malleability, and ambiguity. The viewer is presented with a single word floating on a cloud, like a daydream or a reverie. In many ways, it was an opportunity for discovery. A single word functions like a Rorschach test and provides access to the viewer's state of mind. The word Whatever could be funny, sarcastic, or lovingly accepting."
As a part of the residency, Arismendi created eighteen large monoprints and a suite of three etchings. In the etchings, she began to deconstruct the elements from the monoprints. The suite includes monoprint patterns printed as chine collé with the etched image/word.
