Casting Call for Independent Movie in Houston Area

still for promo of Rich Kids

Laura Somers, an LA-based independent filmmaker best known for Love 10 to 1 (2009), is returning to Pasadena, Texas to cast and shoot a feature-length movie called Rich Kids. It’s an all-Latino narrative inspired by a dark event in Somers’ life growing up there.

Rich Kids will (via Somers) will possibly shed some light on “today’s growing wealth disparity in the United States and the Houston area,” as it’s about a group of troubled teens who break into the mansion of a much richer neighbor for fun, and things spiral downward from there, with “…loyalties and [the] common bond being tested as the desire for power ascends within the walls.” (It sounds a little like a cross between the Stanford Prison experiment, the Bling Ring, and Lord of the Flies. Could be good.) Austin-born filmmaker David Saldaña is co-writer. (Somers has extensive experience in theater, and was a founder of the Austin-based theater company the dirigo group.)

“Filming on Rich Kids will take place this fall in South Houston and Pasadena. Somers is currently casting local up and coming Latino talent for the leading roles and interviewing local crew members.”
