Dallas-based sculptor Kate Firth was recently commissioned to create one of her increasingly popular public artworks for a park called the Chicken Coop, located in a community called Light Farms in Celina, TX.
The park is a new addition to the 1,070 acre master-planned community, and the park and its Firth-created centerpiece come compliments of the community’s builder, Republic Property Group. They’ve dubbed the park the Chicken Coop because, according to RPG CEO Tony Ruggeri: “A mother hen is known to watch over her baby chicks as their curious minds explore and wander about, so we decided to create a park with that idea in mind.”
Firth works big, with steel, and fabricates her own work. Her commissions are popping up around the region. For this piece, Firth says: “The idea of being outside playing with friends, running around and the memories they’ll have playing there reminds me of when I was young… and hopefully contributes something unique that will enhance those memories.”
