Texas State University’s new Historic Textiles and Apparel gallery opens its inaugural show, “From Field to Fantasy: The Art of Costume Produced for the Texas Citrus Fiesta,” on Thursday, featuring handmade costumes made from dried, powdered and crystallized fruits and vegetables. The costume makers will be at the event to demonstrate their techniques. The Citrus Fiesta, which began in 1932 in Mission, TX has featured these unusual costumes for the past 76 years. The reception afterwards promises mariachi music, citrus fruit and folklorica dancers. It all begins Thursday, October 7 at 2pm. Free!
