Next Saturday, Oct. 13 is the Meadows symposium Collecting
and Collectivity, which promises to explore whether the capitalist,
celebrity-driven art market of today is just a new type of collective
(sounds to us like wishful thinking on the part of some pinkos, but
hey). The speaker's list is good: former UT Austin prof Mel Ziegler*, WJT Mitchell, Michelle White and K8 Hardy (who wins this week's award for best Myspace page) are on the docket. *Speaking of Ziegler, I've been meaning to point out that UT's bloated, political, overrated studio department deserves our collective derision for letting him go. Someone please name me five outstanding artists that department has produced.
